The Vampire Army
The Vampire Army
In order to keep peace and maintain control of his new world the Vampire Lord Ash’Kayn created the Vampire Army. While it’s name may imply that it consists of vampires, it does not. Some vampires are part of the army, but only in roles of leadership. The army itself is comprised almost entirely of skeletons. Not your everyday mindless skeletons, but remnants of living and breathing people. They act as if they were alive, have personalities, and speak with distant and harrowing voices that echo from someplace unseen. The skeletons are created from the dead of ages past and the supply is nearly limitless. They are durable, quick, smart, and can make very tough foes if they are confronted in number. They are the soldiers, the guards, the border patrols, and the most common supernatural creature to interact with humanity on a daily basis. Normally, skeleton troops are lead by a ghoul or a skeleton that has truly proved itself above and beyond.
Ghouls, a common creature created by vampires. They possess some of the vampire’s strengths and powers but are forced into a never ending addiction to vampire blood. These beings are human in all appearances, mannerisms, and actions. They are virtually no different than humans and as such are used in many operations where the army must infiltrate human settlements and organizations. This fact breeds quite a bit of paranoia amongst humanity because no one can be certain if someone new they meet is really human or a ghoul. Ghouls are also used a front line and field commanders of the Vampire Army. They typically command one or two troupes of skeleton soldiers and next to the skeletons are the second most common supernatural creature for humanity to interact with every day.
Vampires do have a place in the army as well. These positions are usually held by prominent children of the Baron’s and Dukes. They make up the officers and generals of the army. Each position varies with duties and can be as simple as watching over prisoners or as important as putting down an uprising. There is a rank system in place in order to keep command chains intact and as such each vampire is assigned a rank based on age, lineage, and merit. All vampires upon entering the army are given a signet ring to signify their rank and placement within the army.
The last faction within the army does not act within the normal confines of it’s purview. Werewolves, a strange mixture of man and beast, once free to exist on it’s own has come under the direct influence of the Vampire Lord Ash’Kayn and he uses them as an elite force of soldiers and guardians of his lands. Werewolves are exceedingly rare and as such are often only used in the most dire of circumstances. Ash’Kayn permits each of his Dukes to retain one or at most two for their own protection and use within the Duchies, but beyond that they remain within the walls of the capitol and answer only to Ash’Kayn and the head of the Vampire Army — The Dark Lord, Erebus.
